To the Board of Directors for the Roy Westran Scholarship Foundation,
I was so excited to be selected to receive the Westran Scholarship! I appreciate the committee taking the time to recognize my early achievements in the insurance industry. I sincerely hope my values and accomplishments have represented your organization well. A little about me, two years ago I joined the Business and Risk Management class at the Wilson Talent Center, a program built to fill the talent gap in the insurance industry. My two years as part of the program have been nothing short of extraordinary. The opportunities I have been afforded have helped me to jump ahead of the pack, creating a plan and pursuing a successful future during high school. In the last two years I have earned two designations, my CISR and CAWC. As of yesterday morning, I have passed my exam for the Property and Casualty Producers License, becoming one of the youngest people to do it. I have been able to earn three internships, one last summer at Steve Stagg State Farm, another during the school year at the Ingham ISD Communications Department, and my current position as an Intern at Michigan Millers Insurance. I have been given the opportunity to complete ten job shadows and so many out-of-classroom learning opportunities, visiting insurance agencies and companies, bakeries, movie theaters and military bases. Through this program I have been able to visit and make connections with employees at DIFS, Area 8 Special Olympics and Ford Driving Skills for Life. My experience at Ford’s event even inspired me to launch my most proud project at my home school, the Mason Safe Driving Campaign. I plan to pursue business and insurance past high school, and this scholarship is an incredible gift that will be huge in accelerating my path to further my education. I am forever grateful for the experiences I have been provided throughout the last four years and hope to continue taking advantage.
I will use these funds to attend Michigan State University’s Broad College of Business, pursuing a master’s degree in business with a minor in insurance. I hope to get involved in networking events early on at MSU, making as many connections as possible. I hope to join a media organization like Spartan Vision or The State News, using my social skills that I have perfected in the insurance industry to create opportunities in the media field. Since the beginning of my junior year, I have had two goals that have determined everything I do. First, I want to find ways to help as many people as possible. Second, I want to make constant forward progress in my own life, which should help create opportunities to achieve the first goal. I hope above all to continue these ideas throughout college and the rest of my life.
I cannot express the level of gratitude I have to your organization for raising these funds to support young students in the insurance industry. Your contributions to the success of the next generation are not left unseen. I hope to honor your investment in me with a successful next four years at MSU.
Thank you for your support of young insurance professionals, including myself.
Sincerely,
Aidan
